What is Foster Care?

Foster Care is the temporary placement of children who are unable to remain in the family home due to issues such as abuse, neglect and parent/child conflict. YOU CAN BE A FOSTER PARENT IF:

  • You're single, married, divorced or in a partnership
  • Have children (or don’t)
  • Rent or own your residence
  • Have a modest income
  • Are a working parent
  • Have a disability

Becoming a Foster Parent

Become an Isaiah 117 House Volunteer

Thinking about becoming a foster parent? There is no better way to begin your journey into the foster care community than as a respite volunteer for the Isaiah 117 House.  With streamlined training requirements and the support of a team of 40 other volunteers, you will learn how to support the needs of children entering the foster care system in a coordinated and beneficial way.  Join us at the monthly meetings to learn more!

Become an Foster Parent

Foster parents are in critically short supply in Butler County.  Far too many children are placed in youth detention centers for the simple reason that a foster home is not available for their placement.  Likewise, foster homes who are able to accept sibling groups are desperately needed. Learn more about the foster agencies who serve Butler County and the steps you can take to change the lives of so many children by joining us at a monthly meeting soon!

Process Overview

Becoming a Foster Parent

1) Complete the applications, obtain your clearances, provide references

  • We’ll help you with the paperwork!

2) Complete training

  • We’ll get this coordinated for you!

3) Home certification

  • Separate and adequate bedroom space for the child
  • Pass water test (if well water system)
  • Safety caps on electrical outlets
  • Poisonous materials marked and not accessible to children
  • An operable portable fire extinguisher
  • Heating devices which have been properly installed and maintained
  • Emergency telephone numbers posted adjacent to the telephones
  • Operable smoke detectors
  • Drinkable well water (if you have a well, it must be tested)
  • An operable heating system
  • An operable telephone

NOTE:  We are working with Butler County businesses to build a supply of items listed above to make sure new foster homes do not incur any cost to meet the guidelines!
